"The governor is not allowed to veto a citizens initiated law. Instead, Baldacci took the suggestions from this corrupted taskforce and crafted an amendment to the people's law, LD 1811. This amendment did a number of things. The more egregious changes include changing the registration from voluntary to mandatory, adding a fee of $100 a year for the registration, requiring patients to sign a release giving the DHHS full access to their private medical files and subjecting patients to unwarranted searches and seizures."
If you disagree with this sort of meddling please download, print out and send to your local state Rep/Senator.

CCTP event today... congrats...
Kudos to the Cumberland County Tea Party who put on a cracking event in Westbrook today. It was great to meet Kevin Scott, John Jenkins and Shawn Moody the governor candidates who showed up for the event. It was great that those who attended got to meet the varied choice they have for governor. Maine is fortunate to have such a variety of candidates for the top spot in the state.
Pre-election patriotic rally in Westbrook today

Vote Tuesday 8 June
We strongly encourage members of the tea party movement to vote Yes on Question 1. The people’s veto is an excellent opportunity for citizens of Maine to curb legislators’ tax and spend ways.
A yes vote on Question 1 is a no brainer for those concerned about limiting government, cutting taxes and fiscal responsibility.
The tea party movement remains neutral on the selection of a candidate to run for governor in November.

Yes on 1 rally... in Augusta on the 6th of June
Join our Rally to Reject 102 New Taxes!
June 5th, 12:00 Noon at the Statehouse
Vote YES to Reject New Taxes, Still Fed Up with Taxes, the Green Party, Democrats for Fair Tax Reform and numerous other groups will hold a rally June 5th at noon, at the Statehouse in Augusta to bring attention to question one on the ballot.
Question 1, the citizen veto of legislation to expand Maine's sales tax to 102 new services and items will be voted on by the people of Maine on June 8th. A YES on 1 vote will reject this new law.
Small business owners, anti tax groups and leaders across the state want to bring attention to the very misleading ads being broadcast across the state by pro-tax supporters of this legislation. Ads are being broadcast that tell Mainers to vote no to reject tax increases. The statement is completely false and we must educate Maine people on the truth.
Come help us! Bring an antique car, motorboat, snowmobile, put a mower or a 4-wheeler in the back of your truck, or just bring an item that will be taxed. Show Maine people what is going to be taxed and help get out the truth.
Remember: Vote YES on 1 on June 8th!

Maine Tea Party movement... in BDN
An interesting piece on the tea party movement in Maine... with the requisite of bit of hatred and contempt from a local Democrat.
The Democrat responsible for that comment should be ashamed of themselves.

We are not predators...
There is a public hearing for An Act to Prevent Predatory Signature Gathering and Ensure a Clean Citizen Initiative and People's Veto Process (LD 1690) on Monday, February 8th @ 1pm in the Legal and Veterans Affairs, Room 437 in the State House.
This bill is Representative Seth Berry's response to LD 1495, Peoples Veto effort. Below is a summary of LD 1690 –
· This bill requires the Secretary of State to make electronic lists of certified signatures from petitions for direct initiatives of legislation and people's veto referenda beginning December 2010.
· The bill also extends the time period that a person has to examine petitions when challenging the decision of the Secretary of State from 5 to 10 days.
· The bill authorizes the Secretary of State to reject certification of signatures on a petition for a direct initiative of legislation or a people's veto if the person who signed the petition submits a written request to the direct initiative or people's veto applicant 15 days prior to the date when the petitions are due to the municipal clerk for verification.
· This bill also requires registration of organizations that receive compensation to collect or support the collection of signatures on petitions for a direct initiative of legislation or people's veto referendum.
Finally, this bill makes a technical clarification to the campaign finance and disclosure laws regarding ballot question committees.
The Link to the whole bill is: http://www.mainelegislature.org/legis/bills/bills_124th/billtexts/HP119101.asp
This bill is atrocious! We need to show up in droves to testify that we are not “predators”. It’s our constitutional right to have a people’s veto!
If you can’t make it to the hearing, please contact YOUR senator and representatives to encourage them to vote Ought Not to Pass on this bill!

Running as independent in Maine...
Its not as hard as you might think.
Candidate Guide
It makes it clear that running as an independent is quite a bit easier than you might expect. Non-party state rep candidates need 50 signatures on their nominating petition; beyond that, there's just a little bit of paperwork.

Rally in Augusta/Maine coordinator on Farm Relief Freedom Rally
Event: 7th of Nov
Where: State House Parking lot in Augusta.
When: 12:00 (noon) until 3.
Why: To remind elected representatives that in exactly a year they will be up for election.
In addition two participants in the following cross-country event will be attending.
_______
Farmer Relief & Freedom Relay to partner with Saving the Valley (www.savingthevalley.org) that Hope Forgot – A Tea Party Patriots™ relief relay across the nation to assist the farmers of California’s Central Valley.
In actions that can only be described as lacking the most basic humanity, the U.S. Congress has turned off the water to Central Valley farmers, leaving their land dry, their fields fallow, and their dreams and ambitions scattered in the dust. Tens of thousands are unemployed and waiting in food lines. The federal government is proving once again that the government is the problem, not the solution.
In the Central Valley of California, the Central Valley Tea Party, Water for All, Families Protecting the Valley, and local valley farmers have banded together to provide immediate and direct assistance to the suffering communities. The Central Valley Tea Party naturally reached out to their nationwide network through the Tea Party Patriots™. Across the nation the response was overwhelmingly positive. From this nationwide web, the Farmer Relief & Freedom Relay was formed.
Tea Party Patriots™ from across the nation are organizing three relief missions crossing the country with food, clothing, gift cards and other donations to assist the farmers who have been forsaken by their own government.

_____________
Northern leg speaker Andrew Ian Dodge (Tea Party Patriots coordinator for Maine (http://maineteaparty.blogspot.com) and Josh Parker (TPP organizer in Texas) will be in Augusta to talk about their mission, which begins on Sunday with an event in Worchester, Mass.
