Running as independent in Maine...

Its not as hard as you might think.

Candidate Guide

It makes it clear that running as an independent is quite a bit easier than you might expect. Non-party state rep candidates need 50 signatures on their nominating petition; beyond that, there's just a little bit of paperwork.

  1. That is exceptionally unfair. To run for Bangor City Council I personally had to get 150 signatures, in the next cycle I think it was reduced to 100. Then again, life is not and will never be fair. It is however very much worth it.
